On June 2, at about 8:30 a.m., the KRPF responded to a call regarding the death of a young man.
The previous day, a group had left Kangirsuk for Roberts Lake, which is about a five-hour trip by snowmobile. During the trip, one of the snowmobiles broke through the ice at around 1:00 a.m. on June 2. The passenger was able to swim to safety and rescue himself, but not the driver. The body was found about 30 minutes later and CPR was performed unsuccessfully.
