NPS police chief visits Nunavik communities

April 29, 2026

Earlier this winter, I took several weeks to visit with community leaders and residents in all 14 Nunavik communities. I was fortunate to be accompanied by Maggie Putulik, Assistant Director General, on my visits to several communities.

The objective of this tour was to meet with mayors, councils and other local leaders, and to engage in open discussions on policing and public safety challenges we collectively face.

We also took time to meet with police officers, inspect police stations and police staff housing, examine police vehicles, and assess overall working conditions.

Each visit concluded with a visit to the local FM radio station where we provided residents with a summary of discussions held with elected representatives. We also opened the phone lines to answer questions directly from the public and to hear individual concerns.

A heartfelt thank you to #AirInuit for being an outstanding travel partner. Navigating difficult weather conditions and complex logistics were no small tasks, and the tour would not have been possible without their dedication and support.
