Nunavik Police Service conducts significant alcohol seizures as part of ongoing efforts to combat bootlegging

Over the past few weeks, the Nunavik Police Service (NPS) has carried out two significant alcohol seizures as part of its ongoing efforts to combat bootlegging.

On August 30 in Kuujjuaraapik, a search of a cargo flight arriving from La Grande Airport led to the seizure of 46 bottles of liquor, mainly vodka, with an estimated black-market resale value of more than $14,000.

On September 10 in Puvirnituq, police also seized 30 bottles of vodka that were being transported in violation of the Act respecting offences relating to alcoholic beverages. The estimated black-market value of the seized alcohol was approximately $9,000.

Several other seizures have been carried out in various villages since the beginning of the year. From January to July 2026, more than 985 litres of alcohol were seized. The total street value of these products is estimated at over $316,000.
