Nunavik Police Service extends solidarity and support to Montreal Police Service
The Nunavik Police Service (NPS) expresses profound sadness and solidarity with the Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal (Montreal Police, SPVM), which yesterday lost one of their own, Officer Mohamed Lamine Benredouane, 34 years old, who died in the line of duty. A civilian and the suspect were also killed, while a second police officer was seriously injured, yet remains in stable condition.
The NPS works closely with the SPVM on joint investigations of criminal activity involving Nunavik communities. Officers of both police services know each other well and frequently work together on suspected criminal cases.
“The men and women of the NPS stand in solidarity with our SPVM colleagues and friends during this difficult time. We offer our deepest condolences to the family of Officer Benredouane. We also offer our sympathies to the family of a Montreal resident who died tragically during the shooting. This tragedy is a reminder of the inestimable courage and sacrifice shown by police officers and other first responders who daily place themselves at risk to keep our communities safe.” – Jean-François Bernier, Chief of Police, Nunavik Police Service
